Serif and The Line Hotel is next to famous theater, The Warfield, right at the intersection of Market and Turk Street in downtown San Francisco. This mixed-use, Flatiron-inspired property has a residential east wing and a hotel to the west, featuring 12 floors above ground floor and two below ground. Construction began in 2019, with two world-class architecture firms — Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) handling the design concept and construction details managed by Handel Architects LLP. International property and infrastructure group Lendlease from Australia led the building construction. Occupying the west wing is The LINE San Francisco, the latest project in an exclusive series of boutique hotels operated by the renowned Sydell Group. Interior design was jointly helmed by LA interior designer Sean Knibb and BAR Architects from San Francisco.

A Novel Landmark that Mixes Hotel and Residential Space in Historic Market Street, Downtown San Francisco
Welcome to the new Mid-Market, confluence of the eclectic.
Serif is Mid-Market's newest residential development: 242 condominiums, from studios to two-bedrooms. But it's more than just condos. We're sharing the space with the sumptuously hip LINE hotel and several local retailers. And as a nod to the neighborhood's roots, San Francisco's legendary Magic Theatre plans to open a second location here as well.
The architectural design of this striking 12-story building is the result of a collaboration between conceptual architect Bjarke Ingels Group, of Denmark, interior architect IwamotoScott, of San Francisco, and architect of record Handel Architects, also of San Francisco.
The result is unlike anything in The City—in form, in color, in style. The bright white, textured facade takes cues from contemporary architecture, while the flatiron at Turk and Market recalls early 20th century San Francisco. Also noteworthy is the variety of window shapes and sizes, connecting the building's interior with the surrounding area.
